Today's the day!

Physics, engineering, computing… day-to-day life here at CERN already runs in several dimensions. But today, we go beyond our usual business as we host TEDxCERN, bringing together some of the brightest minds from a range of disciplines under the theme of “multiplying dimensions”.

It’s half past 12 (Swiss time) and registration has just opened for guests to pick up their badges and programmes. The weather may be a bit wet, but that won’t dampen our spirits; energy levels are high here at CERN (well, higher than usual!) and there is a buoyant atmosphere. Our army of staff and volunteers are busy putting the finishing touches on our twin venues – the iconic Globe of Science & Innovation and CERN’s very own Main Auditorium. Speakers, organisers and other CERN staff are already milling about over coffees or meeting by chance along corridors, discussing the big ideas to be revealed later today. There is an air of excitement about the place right now, reminiscent of days when major discoveries are announced.

Thirteen talks, an interactive Q&A, four special performances, fiveTED-Ed animations and a few extra surprises await us all over the course of the next few hours, so stay tuned!

We’ve multiplied the dimensions in which you can keep up with the action, especially online. For starters, all the talks will be streamed live at this link. Between the sessions, there will be fresh blog posts like this one on this very page. Our Facebook page will also keep you up to date with the latest goings-on here at CERN. Meanwhile on Twitter, you can follow our account @TEDxCERN and interact with us using the hashtag #TEDxCERN for up-to-the-minute updates with speakers’ quotes, pictures from the venues, and more.

Check back here at 15:30 (Swiss time) for an update, looking back at our first session of talks and animations and with a sneak preview of Session Two.
